ℹ About Durham's Transit System

GoDurham GoDurham is Durham's city bus system, operated by the City of Durham in partnership with GoTriangle. It serves neighborhoods across Durham with fixed routes, the Bull City Connector downtown circulator, and paratransit service (GoDurham ACCESS) for riders with disabilities.

GoTriangle GoTriangle is the regional transit authority serving Durham, Wake, and Orange counties. GoTriangle operates express bus routes connecting Durham to RDU Airport, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Research Triangle Park, and manages the regional GoPass fare system.

Rail The Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit (DOLRT) project was cancelled. Durham continues to pursue other transit investments including Bus Rapid Transit corridors and regional service improvements. Check durhamtransitplan.com for the latest on capital planning.

Fares: GoDurham fixed-route buses are currently fare free! Just board and ride. GoTriangle regional routes still charge fares; a GoPass card is the easiest way to pay. Free transfers between GoDurham and GoTriangle routes are available within a 90-minute window using GoPass.

🎒 How to Ride

New to Durham transit? Here are four things that will make your first ride smoother.

  • Step 1: Plan Your Trip

Use the GoTriangle Live Map or the Transit app to find your route and see real-time arrivals. GoDurham buses can run a few minutes early or late, so always check live tracking before you leave.

  • Step 2: Board for Free

GoDurham fixed-route buses are fare free, no payment needed to board. If you're connecting to a GoTriangle regional route, bring a GoPass card. Cards are available at Durham Station and at gotriangle.org/gopass.

  • Step 3: Board & Signal

Wait at the marked bus stop and signal the driver by waving. Board through the front door and take a seat. To get off, pull the yellow cord or press the stop button before your stop.

  • Step 4: Transfers & Connections

Ask for a free transfer when you board (or use GoPass for automatic transfers). Durham Station downtown is the main hub where GoDurham and GoTriangle routes connect. Allow extra time when transferring.
